In my experience, many pastor’s blogs are boring. (If you are a pastor and are reading this blog post, I am not talking about your blog.) By boring I mean that they are predictable. Variety is the spice of life, so today I am blogging about music.

Thankfully, God loved me enough not to call me to be a worship pastor. But I have played instruments (piano and saxophone) and performed in various choirs (2nd tenor mostly). This is certainly not to brag, but to admit to a musical background.

From as far back as I can remember, my parents have loved music. My mom sang in the choir and played the piano. My dad can barely carry a tune but loves pop music.

Dad exposed me to the amazing talents of Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix’s bluesy and soulful rock and roll is a favorite of Dad’s and of mine.

“Hey Joe” is one of my favorites of Hendrix.

Only recently – say the last six months – have I become aware of the band the Black Keys. Below is one of my favorite songs by the Black keys, “I’ll Be Your Man.”

Listening to this song reminds me of Hendrix and most importantly reminds me of the days of listening to Hendrix’s bluesy and soulful music in Dad’s variety of sports cars.
